My middle name is Marshall, named after my grandfather.
My grandfather owned a auto-garage, "Welty's Garage" in St. Joseph, Missouri and was an avid baseball fan.
When I was 13 years old I played on a competitive baseball team out of St. Joseph and spent a lot of time with my grandpa. I will always remember that summer because he taught me three life lessons all tied into hitting a baseball:
1. If the first pitch looks good, take a swing! The pitcher is not going to send you invitation to hit the ball - don't take a strike if the first pitch is what you want.
2. Never make life easy for your opponent, run out every ground ball and every pop-up, you never know when you can force others to make a mistake.
3. No one cares about what you did at your last at-bat...
