When Jones PR launched 20 years ago in the heart of Oklahoma City, we had a simple goal of putting our clients on the map by ensuring their messages had the opportunity to Be Heard Anywhere. Two decades later, Oklahoma City has seen tremendous growth, and so has Jones PR. While Oklahoma City has transformed with the help of the MAPS projects, received numerous accolades for being one of the top cities in the nation and welcomed an NBA franchise, Jones PR has achieved numerous victories on behalf of our clients, and we’re just getting started.
As I look back on the past 20 years, none of this would have been possible without the pioneering spirit of our clients, who have entrusted us with their brands. The world was a much different place 20 years ago,
In honor of the last two decades, here are 20 great moments for Jones PR:
▶ 2001 Jones PR started at Brenda’s kitchen table, and two months later, she opened downtown’s first PR and advertising agency in the Colcord building.
▶ 2002. Jones PR became the official PR agency for the Oklahoma Centennial Commission and managed communications for the Centennial’s first official event, completing the dome atop the Oklahoma State Capitol building.
▶ 2003. Jones PR handled the national PR for “Cat Seat,” a device featured in the movie “Meet the Fockers,” a comedy hit that helps train cats to use a toilet. Bonus: NBC’s “The Tonight Show” host Jay Leno featured Cat Seat in his opening monologue.
▶ 2005. Jones PR planned multi-media marketing for the grand opening of the new Oklahoma History Center and, through its first year, exceeded goals for a number of visitors.
▶ 2007. The Oklahoma Centennial was officially celebrated, and Jones PR helped promote more than 1,000 official centennial events and projects in all 77 counties, The Tournament of Roses Parade that featured the State of Oklahoma as the Opening Show and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
▶ 2007. Jones PR wins its first national award, the Clarion Award by the Association for Women in Communications, for its work on behalf of the Oklahoma Centennial.
▶ 2009. Jones PR begins efforts to network Oklahoma’s commercial and military aerospace industry that has evolved into the Oklahoma Aerospace Forum.
▶ 2010. Jones PR wins its second Fortune 100 client, Verizon Wireless and leads the PR for announcing Verizon’s 4G and 4GLTE network in Oklahoma. At the time, this cutting-edge technology was not available in all parts of the United States, and Jones Pr participated in leading the marketing for a nationwide rollout.
▶ 2011. To celebrate Jones PR’s 10th anniversary, the agency launched “CARE - Community Agency of Record Effort” and provided one year of free communications services to the Oklahoma History Center and a bioscience startup company.
▶ 2011. Launched Jones PR’s integrated marketing services that included providing social media management services to clients in all industries and an in-house creative department by hiring the agency’s first creative director.
▶ 2011. Launched “NextGen 30” with official media partner ionOklahoma magazine as a program that motivates young professionals to build their careers in Oklahoma.
▶ 2016. To celebrate Jones PR’s 15th anniversary, the agency launched “15 Days of Giving” and donated services and goods totaling $15,000, such as donated 15 Kindles, scholarships to 15 disadvantaged children, 15 therapeutic learning tools, 15 winter coats and more to non-profit organizations statewide.
▶ 2016. As a gift to the community, Jones PR launched The Oklahoma 100, a multi-platform online media news source. It has grown to more than 115,000 subscribers, the largest in Oklahoma.
▶ 2018. Oklahoma’s first PR agency to win a Cannes Lions Award for the agency’s creativity and execution for a national non-profit.
▶ 2018. Launched Oklahoma’s first Aerospace Forum with INTRUST Bank as Presenting Sponsor to provide an opportunity for Oklahoma’s commercial and military aerospace leaders and businesses to collaborate on growth opportunities.
▶ 2019. Former Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett joined Jones PR and continues to serve as Executive Counsel to the agency and our clients.
▶ 2019. Launched Oklahoma City’s first agency-run social media influencer portal. JPR Activate provides brands across the country access to vetted influencers to serve as ambassadors and coalition members.
▶ 2020. Jones PR won its first federal contract to promote FirstNet, the government’s secure emergency broadband for public safety and first responder officials, on a national level.
▶ 2021. Jones PR opened Oklahoma City’s largest hotel - Omni Oklahoma City Hotel.
▶ 2021. Privilege for Jones PR to manage marketing communications for the grand opening of First Americans Museum, which sold out both days. The agency handled communications for its Ground Blessing in 2005.
