The history of Bricktown

Andrew Aston – Account Coordinator

Bricktown began as a warehouse district that sprang up near the junction of the Oklahoma railroad station and the Oklahoma River after the 1889 Land Run.

Bricktown is the historic crossroad for Oklahoma City and is home to four railroad companies. It soon evolved into much more than a crossroad, becoming a battleground for civil rights.

As the city grew during the 20th century, Bricktown was gradually abandoned until the 1990s. In 1993, OKC approved the first Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) program, which revitalized the area and laid the foundation for the trendy entertainment district we know it as today.
