Get involved and change your life

Meaghan Hatch – Assistant Account Executive

It wasn’t until I moved to Washington D.C. that I realized how much I missed the place I had come to know so well — Oklahoma City. I had grown up and spent my college years developing lifetime friendships here and found that I yearned for the community that existed in OKC.

So, when I was given the opportunity to move back home to the panhandle state, I made it my mission to fully immerse myself in the city and truly get involved through various organizations in OKC.

Here are a few ways you can dive into your community just like I did.

  • Networking – Connecting with others through different organizations and groups that aren’t like-minded encouraged me to challenge myself and has expanded my network immensely.
  • Finding your passion – Everyone has a passion. Whether that be politics, sports, health and wellness, fashion, pets or something else, community involvement creates a way to turn your passion into volunteer opportunities and a way to better your city.
  • Improving productivity – Being involved in my community has helped me become more motivated to learn new skills that are beneficial to both my personal and professional life.

If you are on the fence about volunteering in your community, I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and go for it. Check out this list of charities in Oklahoma City, pick one important to you and sign up to volunteer. You never know how it could impact your life!
