How to advance your career outside the office

Don’t limit yourself to thinking your career can’t progress unless you are inside the office walls. Pick up these two habits – they may help you reach your next professional milestone:

• Talk to those around you – Whether you are in line at a restaurant or walking to your car, strike up a conversation. You never know who you could meet or where that connection can lead you.

• Get involved – If you are still a student, this one’s easy. Consider joining clubs on campus that will be beneficial to your future career. Current professionals may enjoy joining programs, boards or charity organizations.
