5 Free Wedding Fonts You Need Right Now

Laura Wilcox – Assistant Creative Director

Nearly every woman I know has a wedding board on Pinterest for puffy Cinderella gowns and impossibly cool updos. Exactly. You know the type. Now, I’ve got a wedding board too, but unlike most, mine is filled with endless pins of fonts, fonts and more fonts. Nerdy, I know. #GraphicDesignerProblems.

When it comes to weddings, more and more couples are adopting a DIY approach. But when it comes to stationary, the endless list of possibilities can be overwhelming enough to make Martha Stewart ugly-cry. As a designer I see a lot (I mean, a lot) of fonts. Today, in lieu of a tiny cow-shaped butter dish, I’m sharing my five favorite wedding fonts with you as an early gift.

Thank you cards optional.

An unlikely blend of storybook charm and 20s art deco, Fontleroy Brown is vintage through and through. A fresh take on an old favorite, it’s easy to fall in love with such a gorgeous script.

A beautiful blend of informal script and elegant hand lettering, Luna captures the youthful spirit of modern calligraphy that often accompanies rustic chic weddings. Perfect for weddings in fields, by oceans, on mountains and just generally near nature.

A simple yet original serif, Theano Didot is an excellent choice for classic black-tie ceremonies. It is, in short, the antonym of Ke$ha. Ten out of ten, would recommend to a (sophisticated) friend.

You know the expression, “If you like it so much, why don’t you marry it?” That was invented around Disco. The most contemporary of the group, Disco offers sleek and slim strokes that are edgy, minimalist and just plain cool.

The name says it all. Exotica offers a flamboyant elegance in the detail that’s dramatic but still tasteful, hopefully not unlike your new mother-in-law. If “go big or go home” is your personal mantra, call eHarmony because you just found your match.

Remember, there are endless possibilities out there! For more options, check out my favorite, elegantly named sites FontSquirrel or DaFont.
