4 Reasons Why the 2016 Election Matters in Oklahoma

Joshua Harlow – Senior Vice President

1. How Conservative is Oklahoma? Oklahoma is often is dubbed the "Reddest" state in the Nation and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump is far ahead here, however, will it be closer than expected? Remember, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic Primary.

2. Oklahoma State Legislature. Many Democrats I have spoken with around the state are optimistic they can pick up seats, while the GOP is confident in both the Senate and the House. With a looming budget shortfall of $400-600million, the make-up of the legislature should be closely watched.

3. State Questions. Right to Farm, Criminal Justice and a statewide sales tax for teachers are some of the headliners. These all have far-reaching implications that could determine the tone and tenor of next legislative session.

4. 2018. While it seems like a LONG time away, every statewide office will be on the ballot in 2018 and 2016 will lay the groundwork for the beginning of the next election cycle.
