Non-social media apps to use instead

Carolyn Taylor – Account Coordinator

We’ve all been there — our brains are in dire need of a break so we head to our favorite social media apps to see what the world has been up to since we last checked it...29 minutes ago. But, no matter how many times we refresh our feeds, nothing new has happened (especially amid a pandemic with nowhere to go because let’s face it – even grocery store runs can’t entertain us anymore).

So, instead of scrolling through mind-numbing videos on Facebook and Instagram or sending the latest Twitter threads of memes to our friends, try these new apps that will help you be more productive and maybe even find yourself a new hobby!

Skillshare
Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of classes for creative and curious people to discover new things on topics like illustration, design, photography, video, freelancing and more.

This app found its way to my inbox through one of my favorite newsletters. With their two-month free trial, how could I say no? Since I’ve had it, I’ve loved tapping into my creative side and learning subjects like podcast marketing, website design and even learning how to make a signature cocktail! The creative possibilities are simply endless with Skillshare.

Sign up today to start your two-month free trial.

Project Foodie
If you’re wanting to brush up on your cooking skills, Project Foodie is for you. This app has videos of simple, easy-to-make recipes that give you tips and tricks to ensure you understand each step.

Complete with a hilarious personality and celebrity host Daniel Holzman, this free app will have you creating decadent, quality meals in no time (yay for fewer peanut butter sandwiches and mac and cheese dinners).

Download this free app from the App store today.

MasterClass: Learn New Skills
If you’re one of those people who “doesn’t have enough space on their phone to download more apps,” get the beauty of having everything you need with this all-in-one app. MasterClass offers courses to learn anytime, anywhere complete with a variety of topics including cooking, leadership, writing, filmmaking, acting, photography, fashion, comedy and more. Better yet — these courses are taught by the best in the industry including, but not limited to, Christina Aguilera, Simone Biles and Gordon Ramsay.

Tap into your creative genius and learn the things you’ve always wanted to but “never had the time.” Who knows? It may lead to a whole new community of friends who are just as passionate about something as you, a side-hustle or even a career change.

As Henry Ford once said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” Continuing to learn allows you to evolve and grow into the person you were always meant to be.

MasterClass is free to download and includes in-app purchases for a full learning experience. Try it today!

I’ll leave you with a few quotes from my favorite book, The Alchemist, to give you a kickstart on why learning new things and following your dreams is exhilarating.

● “It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

● “For her, every day was the same, and when each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”

● “When you really want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
