Increasing your Instagram Aesthetic

Kristen Fine – Assistant Account Executive

Are you looking to improve your Instagram aesthetic or grow your following? Having a cohesive Instagram aesthetic is the key to gaining followers and building a strong brand.

Why should you care about your Instagram aesthetic? Followers engage with brands they can trust which they measure through a brand’s following, aesthetic and engagement. Your Instagram feed is the first thing a victor sees when they come to your profile so it’s just as important to make a good first impression there as it is on your website.

The first thing you will want to do is decide on the Instagram aesthetic you would like to have. You will need to conduct research on some of your competitors and like-minded brands that you follow and are inspired by.

You will want to consider the types of photos you will be posting. For example, light and bright or dark and moody. Make sure you consider your target audience and what your brand is promoting.

There are many presets online that you can purchase at barely any cost to enhance your aesthetic. Etsy and Pinterest are great places to download them and use Adobe Lightroom. Once you have decided your photo aesthetic, it is time to get posting! The goal here is to create a depth of field, similar to what has been taught in a simple photography class. A great way to do this is by posting more minimal photos next to busier photos. If you are promoting products on your Instagram feed then mix up the product posts with user-generated content and lifestyle photos.

Once you have this nailed down, it’s important to carry this same aesthetic on to your Instagram stories. This is as simple as using the same Instagram “font” or using brand colors from your style guide. There are also tons of Instagram templates that can be used to give your stories some variety, such as Canva or Unfold.

The last way to ensure you have a cohesive Instagram feed is by planning out your content in advance. This helps you stay accountable and consistent when it comes to posting.

These are just a few ways to help improve and create a more cohesive Instagram aesthetic for your brand.
